Johnson immediately cancelled appearances with the band in the US over the next 2 months. They have postponed ten tour dates leaving fans pondering the future of the band. They must now go through the difficult task of deciding who will replace Johnson who has been lead vocalist for 36 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A statement on AC\/DC\u2019s website says \u201cBrian Johnson has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss\u201d. The statement continues \u201cTomorrow\u2019s show in Atlanta through Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in early April will be made up later in the year, likely with a guest vocalist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In spite of the statement, there doesn\u2019t seem to be much appetite for a replacement to lead the band on tour amongst fans. An online poll by the Sydney Morning Herald overwhelmingly seems to support ending AC\/DC in the wake of Johnson\u2019s departure from the tour. Given nine choices for a replacement, 50% of people said \u201cwithout Brian Johnson there is no AC\/DC\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Johnson would not be the first rock n roll lead to lost his hearing after a lifetime of music.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/veritashearing.thisisyour.design\/the-ear-blog\/5-rock-stars-with-hearing-loss\/\">Rockers have a history of hearing loss due<\/a>\u00a0to touring after decades without ear protection. \u00a0Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers (H.E.A.R) was set up in 1980s with the help of Pete Townshend specifically to raise awareness among rock musicians about the dangers of not protecting your ears. Townshend himself has indicated that listening to music through headphones has had an especially bad effect on his hearing saying\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/veritashearing.thisisyour.design\/the-ear-blog\/students-get-your-hearing-checked\/\">\u201cmy intuition tells me\u00a0there is terrible trouble [for audiophiles] ahead\u201d<\/a>.
