Hearing Aids

Did you know there is a hearing aid Barbie?

The highly anticipated Barbie movie is now available to watch at the cinema! But today’s question is… did you know that there is a hearing aid Barbie?

Mattel launched a new range of diverse Barbie dolls in 2022 which includes the doll with a hearing aid. The range also includes dolls with wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs and vitiligo. Each of the dolls in the range is presented by a model for whom the doll reflects; for hearing aid Barbie that is Rose Ayling-Ellis, Eastenders star and Strictly champion.

Rose became the first deaf contestant of Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 and then went on to win the show. She wowed the nation when she danced part of one of her routines in complete silence to try and demonstrate her own experience with learning her routines. She then went on to become the first celebrity to deliver a CBeebies Bed Time Story in British Sign Language on their BBC Channel.

When this range of Barbies was first launched last year, Rose explained that she used to draw hearing aids on her Barbies when she was a child. Before creating the dolls, Mattel consulted with experts to ensure that they were accurately portraying Barbie’s hearing aids. It is great that children can now celebrate and embrace their differences with this diverse range of dolls.

The Barbie Movie

The Barbie movie has been eagerly awaited since it was first announced all the way back in 2009! Production only began in 2014 when Sony Pictures acquired the film rights. Sony later lost the rights and they were transferred to Warner Bros. Pictures who got the job done and the majority of filming was completed in 2022. Most of the movie was filmed right here in the UK at Warner Bros. Studio in Leavesden, with the rest on Venice Beach Skatepark in LA.
