Hearing Aids

New Year… New Hearing Aids!

We all have those people in our lives who start shouting “New Year, New Me” as soon as January 1st rolls round. The gyms will be packed for a few weeks and people will be arguing over the last bag of iceberg in the supermarket. BUT how about this year, you could actually start with a new you? If you have a hearing loss, treating it really will mean a brand new you!

Personally, I’m not a fan of the New Year, new me outlook on life in January. If you want to make a change, you should do it when you realise a change needs to be made. There is no need to wait until there is a societal pressure to do so. However, I’ll make an exception for this one because any time you decide it’s time to go ahead with new hearing aids and improve your quality of life, is a win in my eyes! If you’re about to embark on this journey, we thought you may like some information on the different types of devices that are available to you.

Are invisible hearing aids the ones for you?

Invisible hearing aids are available as CIC (completely in the canal) or IIC (invisible in the canal). They are both custom digital devices that fit discreetly in your ears. No one will ever know you are wearing them. These are perfect for you if yours keep falling out when you are taking off your glasses, combing your hair or changing your jumper. They can also be made slightly bigger for those with limited dexterity.

Perhaps rechargeable hearing aids are the way to go?

Rechargeable devices are available as RIC (receiver in the canal) and BTE (behind the ear). Both of these are Bluetooth equipped. This means you can control them via an app on your phone. You can also answer your calls at the touch of a button and stream your favourite sounds directly into your ears. These devices are easily charged overnight in a charging case. There is no further need for fiddly battery changes, or costly purchasing of disposable batteries every few months.

Do you wear glasses? Did you know you can have your hearing aids attached!

Hearing aids in your glasses are a little rarer than the first two types we have mentioned. They are available as BC (bone conduction glasses) or AC (air conduction glasses). These are digital hearing aids that can be attached to the back of your existing glasses. You can also choose from a selection of stylish new inbuilt frames. These are perfect for people who struggle with wearing both glasses and hearing aids at the same time.

Have you bought into new me, new hearing aids yet??!

If you’re thinking 2024 is the year where you’d like to improve your quality of life and do something about your hearing, it’s time you booked in for a hearing consultation. At your initial consultation, your hearing will be tested by an Audiologist and a number of diagnostic tests will be carried out. Once these have been done, a recommendation can be made as to which hearing aids are best suited to your hearing loss. You will be able to try the devices recommended for you at your appointment. If you would like to get yourself or a loved one booked in, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
