So, you’ve made the decision to go ahead and purchase hearing aids. You’re now looking forward to what happens next, but do you know what that is? We’re going to explain what happens if you purchase hearing aids with us at Veritas Hearing.
The Big Decision
Once you have decided to go ahead with hearing aids, you need to decide which type of hearing aid you’d like to go for. Your Hearing Care Professional will be able to show you the specific type of hearing aid they would recommend for your individual hearing loss. If you decide on a behind the ear or receiver in canal hearing aid, it should only take around a week to come back and be ready to be fitted.
If you decide on a more discreet option and would prefer an in the ear hearing aid, you will need to have impressions taken of the inside of your ear. These are then sent off to the manufacturer and they will design and make your hearing aid. Due to the customisation of this type of hearing aid, it takes longer to be received back from the manufacturer. Usually it will be back in around 2-3 weeks.
Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment
Once you’ve received that golden phone call to let you know your hearing aid is ready to be fitted, you’ll be given a fitting appointment. This appointment will last for around an hour. The hearing aids will be programmed to your specific hearing loss which will have been recorded at your initial hearing test appointment. You will then be shown how to put the hearing aids in correctly. You will also be shown how to change the battery, or charge them if they’re rechargeable. The Hearing Care Professional may show you how to change the domes and wax filters on the hearing aids. They may also leave this until your follow up appointment. You will be shown how to complete a daily clean of the hearing aids and how to use the app to control them.
Hearing Aid Follow Up 1 Appointment
This will usually be within 7-14 days of having your fitting appointment. You will be shown how to change the domes and wax filters if your weren’t previously. They will ensure that you have been managing well with the hearing aids and have been using the app comfortably. This is the perfect opportunity for you to ask any questions that have cropped up during the last week. There are often little teething problems when you are brand new to hearing aids so please don’t worry. The best thing to do is note down any little things you’d like to discuss as they happen.
Hearing Aid Follow Up 2 Appointment
A second follow up appointment will be booked if the Hearing Care Professional decides that it is needed. It can be anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks after the first follow up appointment. It will be down to the individual patient as to what will be covered at this appointment. You may be shown again how to change the various bits on your hearing aid, as well as how to clean them effectively. Again, it is important to ask any questions that you have thought of since the last appointment.
Alternatively, this appointment may be done by telephone. This is just to check that you are getting on well with the hearing aids. If there are any issues that can’t be resolved over the phone, an appointment will be booked for you.
6 & 12 Month Hearing Check-Ups
When you purchase hearing aids with Veritas Hearing, you also get 2 or 3 years (depending of the model of hearing aid) of aftercare and warranty included in the price. This means that if anything goes wrong with your hearing aids during that period, we will schedule an appointment for you so it can be resolved in a timely manner. During your aftercare period, you will have two 6 month check-ups and two annual check-ups (3 of each if you have a 3 year warranty). Your hearing will be re-tested at each of these appointments. If there has been any change, your hearing aids will be reprogrammed to reflect the change.
If you think it’s time you got yourself booked in for a hearing consultation, please just give us a call. One of our helpful customer care team will offer advice and get you booked in quickly.
